Srinagar, Jan 16 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) has recorded a historic milestone in 2025 by processing a record 2,381 permanent medical registrations, the highest ever in a single year, reflecting a significant expansion of the healthcare workforce and improved regulatory efficiency in the Union Territory.
According to details accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the number of permanent registrations have witnessed a steady upward trend over the past five years. While 459 registrations were processed in 2021, the figure rose to 931 in 2022, 987 in 2023, and 1,324 in 2024, before registering a massive jump in 2025.
Officials said the 2,381 registrations in 2025 represent an increase of nearly 80 per cent compared to 2024, underlining JKMC’s strengthened institutional capacity and its focused efforts to streamline medical registration and professional services.
Breaking down the 2025 figures, JKMC issued 939 Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) permanent registrations, more than double the 584 registrations recorded in 2024. Additionally, 1,252 permanent registrations were granted to graduates from medical colleges within Jammu and Kashmir.
The Council also processed 190 permanent reciprocal registrations. These include doctors from outside Jammu and Kashmir who visit the UT for professional services and are mandatorily required to register with JKMC, as well as doctors from across the country selected for PG NEET and DNB courses in medical colleges and institutions of J&K.
Apart from permanent registrations, the Council recorded a sharp rise in allied regulatory services. During 2025, JKMC issued 1,045 additional registrations, reflecting increased professional mobility and demand for credential verification. It also granted 783 No Objection Certificates (NOCs), 231 Good Standing Certificates, and facilitated 125 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits, aimed at strengthening professional competence and ethical medical practice.
From 2021 to 2025, JKMC handled a total of 6,082 permanent registrations, with 2025 alone contributing nearly 40 per cent of the cumulative five-year figure.
Officials attributed this surge to improved coordination between the Council’s Jammu and Srinagar offices, digitisation of processes, and increased intake of medical professionals in the region.
An official from the Council said the record performance reflects JKMC’s resolve to support healthcare delivery by ensuring timely registration and strict adherence to regulatory norms. “Our focus remains on facilitating doctors while ensuring that the highest professional, ethical and regulatory standards are upheld,” the official said.
The JKMC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen medical governance in Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring transparent, efficient and ethical practice.
